Special Council Meeting - Wednesday, January 22nd at 12:00 p.m.

There will be a special council meeting of the Watervliet City Council on Wednesday, January 22nd at 12:00 p.m. at City Hall in the 3rd floor conference room.

Martin Luther King Holiday Garbage Pick Up

There will be no garbage pick up on Monday, January 20th in observance of Martin Luther King Day.  Monday pick up will move to Tuesday, Tuesday pick up will move to Wednesday, Wednesday pick up will move to Thursday and Thursday pick up will move to Friday. 

Christmas Tree Pick Up

We will be picking Christmas trees up on Fridays in January. 

Tree Committee Meeting 

A meeting of the City of Watervliet Tree Committee will be held on Monday, January 6, 2020 in the Community Room of the Watervliet Senior Center, 1501 Broadway, Watervliet, New York at 7:00 p.m.

Christmas and New Year's Eve/Day Holiday Hours and Garbage Pick up

There will be no garbage pick up on Wednesday, December 25th and Wednesday, January 1st in observance of Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Wednesday pick up will move to Thursday and Thursday pick up will move to Friday.   In addition, City Hall will close Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve at 12:00 p.m. Have a happy and safe holiday season!

Water Main Break - 19th St and 4th Ave

There is a water main break at 19th Street and 4th Ave.  Houses and businesses on 19th between 4th and 6th Avenue will be affected until the break is repaired.  We apologize for the inconvenience.

Lawn and Leaf Pick Up - December 13, 2019

The City will be picking up lawn and leaf bags on Friday, December 13th.  This will be the last pick up until spring of 2020.

We have ornaments left over from Saturday's tree lighting.  If you would like an ornament, stop by the Mayor's office or call 518-270-3815.

Lawn and Leaf Pick Up

Due to the snow emergency, there will be no lawn and leaf pick up this Friday, December 6, 2019.  The City will, however, pick up lawn and leaf bags next Friday, December 13th.

Snow Emergency Update - 12/5/2019

The City of Watervliet snow emergency has been extended through Saturday, December 7th at 7:00 a.m.  If you have any questions, please call the General Manager's office at 518-270-3800 ext. 122 or the Mayor's office at 518-270-3815.

Garbage Pick Up Running One Day Behind

Due to the snowstorm and the snow emergency, garbage pick up is one day behind this week.

Snow Emergency Update

The City of Watervliet snow emergency will begin Tuesday, December 3rd at 7:00 a.m. for the following streets and avenues ONLY:  Grotto Court, Ball Place, Wiswall Avenue, all of 19th Street, all of 25th Street and all of 3rd Avenue in Port Schuyler.  All vehicles must be removed from these streets and avenues when the snow plows come down.  Failure to move your vehicle at that time will result in the vehicle being towed.  Please move your car to an alternate location either this evening or early tomorrow morning or listen for the police make the announcement when they come down your street.  The snow emergency for the remainder of the City will take begin Wednesday 7:00 a.m.   Again, you must move your car to an alternate location or listen for the police to make the announcement when they come down your street.  If you have any questions, please call the General Manager's office at 518-270-3800 ext. 122 or the Mayor's office at 518-270-3815.    Once plowing on your street is complete, you can move your vehicle back.

Snow Emergency - Tuesday, December 3-Thursday, December 5

The City of Watervliet has declared a snow emergency effective Tuesday, December 3rd beginning at 7:00 a.m. until Thursday, December 5th at 7:00 a.m.  Beginning on Monday, December 2nd the Watervliet Police Department will begin the process of notifying residents, through NIXLE, of the process of snow removal and what areas will be affected on that given day.  All residents should opt-in to the NIXLE system by visiting www.watervlietpolice.com in order to remain informed about the process of Snow Removal in the City of Watervliet.  When a snow emergency is declared, the City of Watervliet conducts a comprehensive snow removal process that requires residents to remove their vehicles in order for plows to clean streets from curb to curb.  Any vehicles that do not follow this process are subject to ticket and tow from the area.  Police vehicles precede the plows and direct residents to move their vehicles.  Please contact the General Manager's office for clarification on this process at 518-270-3800 ext. 122.  Stay informed by tuning into local television and print medial news reports, NIXLE updates and the Watervliet Police social media outlets.  You can also contact 518-270-3823 for a recorded message.

Thanksgiving Holiday Garbage Pick Up

There will be no garbage pick up on Thursday, November 28th due to the Thanksgiving holiday.  Thursday garbage will be picked up on Friday.  There will be lawn and leaf pick up Friday, November 29th and Friday, December 6th. 

Water Main Repair - 16th Street and 8th Avenue

If you live in the vicinity of 16th Street and 8th Avenue, your water may be a little dirty.  If this is the case, let your faucet run for a couple minutes.  This is due to a water main break that has been repaired

Capital Roots Tree Planting Event in Conjunction with NYSDEC Climate Smart Community Recertification Presentation

Join us Thursday, November 7, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. at Pershing Green Park for a tree planting (Capital Roots received a grant and has partnered with Watervliet to plant 50 trees throughout the city) and a presentation from NYSDEC recognizing the City of Watervliet's Climate Smart Community Recertification.

There will be no garbage pickup on Monday, November 11th due to Veteran's Day. All sections will be pushed ahead a day (Monday will be picked up Tuesday, Tuesday will be picked up Wednesday, Wednesday will be picked up Thursday, Thursday will be picked up Friday). Street Sweeper Schedule

For the month of November, the street sweeper will be cleaning up your neighborhood the day after your garbage pick up.

2019 Fall Bulk Week - November 18-22, 2019

The City of Watervliet wants to inform residents that November 18-22 has been designated as Fall Bulk Week. During this time Watervliet residents can discard their bulk items at no charge (see limits in attached information sheet). Residents must put their items out the night before their regularly scheduled garbage pick up. We must reiterate this is a perk for residents. This does not include Watervliet homeowners who live outside the city limits. Every year we field a lot of phone calls where it is obvious the person inquiring does not actually live here. This is in violation of Chapter 168 of the City Code and violators will be arrested. Residents are also encouraged to call City Hall if they see someone dumping items (See Something, Say Something). Please note that due to bulk week, we will not be picking up lawn and leaf bags on Friday, November 22nd.

Arsenal City Run

Fall Flushing Begins September 30th

The Water Department of the City of Watervliet will begin fall flushing on Monday, September 30th.   If during this period you have cloudy or dirty water, please let it run for five minutes. If the water remains cloudy, please contact City Hall.

IMPORTANT NOTICE - Wiswall Avenue Pump Station Delivery and Installation

There will be significant infrastructure activity in the area of Wiswall Avenue and Hillside Drive on Thursday, August 29th and Friday, August 30th.  The new Wiswall Avenue Pump Station will be delivered on Thursday and installed on Friday.   Please plan to take alternate routes to any nearby destination due to the nature of this operation.

Water Lateral Repair - Monday, August 26th

A gas contractor accidentally hit a water lateral - 9th Avenue between 16th Street and 18th Street will not have water while the lateral is being repaired.   Once repaired and turned back on, if water is discolored, please let it run for five minutes or so.  We apologize for this inconvenience.

No Parking on 7th Ave between 12th Street and 14th Street on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 from 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

A contractor of National Grid will be paving 7th Avenue between 12th Street and 14th Street tomorrow, August 21, 2019, from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. They have posted NO PARKING signs on the street to inform residents and visitors. 

End of Summer Bash Pool Party - Saturday, August 17th from 12-2

The City of Watervliet is hosting an End of Summer Bash at the Watervliet Swimming Pool on Saturday, August 17, 2019 from 12:00-2:00 p.m. We will be serving hot dogs and hamburgers and setting up a giant water slide for everyone's enjoyment.  This event is made possible due to a generous donation from former resident John Crudo.  Arsenal City Kids will also be there handing out backpacks and school supplies.  Mark your calendars - the extended forecast looks great!

Reminder - Saturday, July 27th is Electronics Recycling Day 

This is a reminder that the City of Watervliet is holding a TV and electronics recycling day Saturday, July 27, 2019  from 8 am - 1pm at the DPW garage located at 13th Street and 2nd Avenue (behind the firehouse). This is for Watervliet residents only (must show proof of residency during drop off).

Arsenal City Run - Sunday, September 22, 2019 - 10:00 a.m.

The 38th Annual Arsenal City Run is Sunday, September 22, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. (1 mile fun run is at 9:30 a.m.)  We are happy to be offering $5.00 off of the $15.00 registration fee from now until Saturday, August 3rd. Watervliet Arsenal Third Avenue Gate to Close for Construction Upgrades

Police Drill - Saturday, June 1st - 8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.

The Watervliet Police and Fire Departments, in conjunction with the Watervliet School District, will be conducting a drill at the Watervliet Jr/Sr High School.  Local road closures may be in effect.

Community Garden Meeting

The Watervliet Housing Authority and the City of Watervliet will be hosting a mandatory meeting regarding the Watervliet community garden. If you have any interest in being a part of the garden, you are required to attend this meeting as we will be discussing the process and baseline rules and regulations. To register for the meeting, call Rachel at the WHA Office, 518-273-4717 x202 or via email at Rmeyer@watervliethousing.org. At this meeting you will also learn what is and what is not permitted to be grown in the garden. There are limited plots available (one per person). The meeting will be held on Thursday June 6th at 5:00 p.m. at the Watervliet Housing Authority meeting room at 2400 2nd Avenue, Watervliet, NY 12189. All interested parties must be legal residents of the City of Watervliet. Again, you are required to attend this meeting as we will be discussing the application process and baseline rules and regulations.

Water Shutdown - Thursday, April 25th

Water will be shut down on Hillside and Wiswall Avenue tomorrow, April 25th beginning at 8:00 a.m. until  work is complete. Homeowners have been notified.

Entrance to Senior Center for Council Meeting

The foyer between the senior center and the library is closed due to construction.  If you are attending tonight's City Council meeting, you will have to enter through the west doors near the parking lot.

Site Work Along Broadway - Bike Path Project

At the end of this week there will be site work (including removal of trees) on Broadway between 13th Street and 15th Street.  

Relay for Life - Watervliet High School - June 8, 2019 - 12:00 p.m. - 12:00 a.m.

Relay for Life of the Hudson River Communities is scheduled for Saturday, June 8th from 12:00 p.m. - 12:00 a.m. at Watervliet High School. This year's event has a board game theme! (LIFE might be a TWISTER but SORRY! cancer we are in it to win it! is one of the tag lines).  Last year this event raised over $56,000; and earlier this month, at the regional volunteer summit, it was announced that this event had the highest overall growth in fundraising for the Capital Region and North Country.  For more information, log onto the event's website www.relayforlife.org/hudsonriverNY.

Message from Code Enforcement Pertaining to Garbage Violations

From Monday, March 4th to Friday, March 8th, the Code Enforcement Department will be concentrating on issuing tickets for garbage violations.Garbage is to be placed out the night before your regularly schedule garbage pickup. All bags are to be in trash containers and all containers must have lids.Failure to follow these guidelines will result in a ticket.

Snow Emergency Extended Through Wednesday for 12th-18th Streets Beginning at 8 a.m.

The snow emergency has been extended through tomorrow, Wednesday, January 23rd for 12th Street to 18th Street.   Please remove your car(s) from these streets when you hear the police and plows.  You can move your car(s) to the avenues.  Call City Hall tomorrow at 270-3815 if you have any questions.

Snow Emergency Declared - Tuesday, January 22nd beginning at 7:00 a.m.

The City of Watervliet has declared a snow emergency for TUESDAY, JANUARY 22ND beginning at 7:00 a.m.  This means your car must be off the street or moved immediately when the police and plows come down your street.  If it is not removed, your vehicle will be immediately towed and not released until you pay a $300 tow and ticket charge.  

Grotto Court, Ball Place, Wiswall and 21st Street will be plowed today, MONDAY, JANUARY 21ST.  Failure to remove your vehicle from these streets will result your vehicle being towed.  Signs and markers were placed on these streets  on Sunday, January 20th.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation and patience.    

Code Blue Shelter at Watervliet Senior Center - Sunday & Monday

This weekend's Winter Storm Harper will be followed by extreme cold both Sunday and Monday - January 20th and 21nd.  If you find yourself in need of shelter for the duration of the cold weather, please contact the Watervliet Police Station at (518) 270-3833 option #1 and we will provide you access to the senior center.   We will keep you updated on emergency operations as the weekend progresses.  Stay safe and stay warm!

Impending Snow Storm

If the forecasters are correct, there is a POSSIBILITY for a snow emergency next week.  If you are going on vacation, please make sure someone has access to your car keys if it is parked on the street.  If you don't have someone who can move your car, you can call City Hall at (518) 270-3815 to make arrangements to park your car at Hudson Shores Park while you are out of town.  Every snow emergency, we get a call from a resident who is out of town and has no way to move their vehicle.  Unfortunately, we aren't able to make exceptions and those cars end up being towed.

Distraction Burglaries in the Capital District

As many of you may have seen on the news, there has been a rash of distraction burglaries primarily targeting senior citizens in the Capital District.  None have been reported in Watervliet, but we wanted to take the time to make it clear to residents that City employees, National Grid employees and contractors do not randomly knock on your door and ask to come into your home.  If this happens to you, decline to let them in, lock your door and call the Watervliet Police Department.  

Water Disruptions - Thursday, November 8th

Water will be shut down tomorrow Thursday, November 8th, at the following locations:  8th Street from 5th to 8th Avenues and 6th Avenue from 8th Street to Arsenal Wall.  Expected to be all day shutdown.

Watervliet Arsenal Annual Flushing of Waterlines-Sunday, Nov. 4th

The Watervliet Arsenal Public Works will be conducting annual flushing of post wide waterlines on Sunday, November 4, 2018.  If you notice any discoloring of your water, we ask that you run your water until clear.

Water Disruptions - Monday, November 5th

On Monday, November 5th, water will be shut off intermittently in the following areas: 8th Street from 5th to 8th Avenues and 6th Avenue from 8th Street to the Arsenal wall due to testing from 8:00 a.m. until complete. Residents will be notified.

Water Shutdown - Friday, October 19th

On Friday October 19th there will be a water shutdown in the following areas:  1300 block of 7th Avenue, 1400 block of 7th Avenue, 1500 block of 8th Avenue and the 700 block of 14th Street. The shutdown will begin at approximately 7:00 a.m. and continue until the water connection work is complete.

Next City Council Meeting - Wednesday, September 26th

Please note the next council meeting is Wednesday, September 26th at 7:00 p.m. at the Watervliet Senior Center (budget workshop at 6:00).    The meetings are normally Thursdays but due to scheduling conflicts the meeting was changed to Wednesday.

787 Ramp Closure Schedule

Please see the attached for the proposed schedule to close and re-pave ramps on I-787 Northbound & Southbound from Exit 7 to Exit 9 from 09/26 to 10/09. These ramps will be closed from 8 PM to 6 AM.  Please be advised that the work is weather permitting. Any nights lost due to rain will move the schedule forward by the amount of nights lost to rain from this date forward.

Water Disruptions - September 11, 2018

Water will be intermittently shut off today in the following locations:  4th Avenue from 6th Street to 7th Street, 5th Avenue from 6th Street to 7th Street and Manor Place. 

Paving Project on 3rd Avenue in Port Schuyler

Due to the final stages of the paving project on 3rd Avenue (Route 32) there will be road closures in sections of the corridor beginning Wednesday, September 12th and continuing on the weekdays through Wednesday, September 19th.  Detours will be clearly marked with signage per DOT detour guidelines.  New Castle will begin milling the road on Wednesday, September 12th (likely from 1st Street to 5th Street) and will continue milling on Thursday, September 13th (likely from 5th Street to Broadway).  On Friday, September 14th New Castle will perform trueing and leveling, and on Monday and Tuesday, September 17th and 18th will continue with iron work to set manholes and other infrastructure to proper levels.  Finally, on Wednesday, September 19th the top coat will be placed.  All of the above are tentative dates, and updates will be provided.

On Friday, May 11, 2018, the City of Watervliet will be shutting down a service main in preparation of a water main replacement inside the Watervliet Arsenal. The entire City may be effected by this shutdown. The shutdown will begin at approximately 9:00 a.m. and will continue throughout the day.  Most homes may have low to no pressure during the shutdown. Once service is restored, water may be dirty or cloudy. Please let the water run for 5 minutes or so. If the discoloration continues please contact the Water Department or City Hall.

A Citywide Garage Sale will take place in Watervliet on Friday, June 1st, Saturday, June 2nd and Sunday, June 3rd, 2018. THERE WILL BE NO RAIN DATES. The City will map out and list on our website (www.watervliet.com – select the box “Interactive Mapping”) your address, days and hours you wish to hold the sale on your property. The normal $10 permit fee will be waived for this weekend’s sale. All unsold items at the end of the sale must be cleared from the property according to the City’s Refuse and Recycling codes. Please do not block the public right of way (sidewalks, etc.). Spring Bulk Week - April 30-May 4, 2018

The City of Watervliet wants to inform residents that the week of April 30th has been designated as Spring Bulk Week. During this time Watervliet residents can discard their bulk items at no charge. Residents must put their items out the night before their regularly scheduled garbage pick up. We must reiterate this is a perk for residents. This does not include Watervliet homeowners who live outside the city limits. We've been fielding a lot of phone calls where it is obvious the person inquiring does not actually live here. Arbor Day Event - Friday, April 27, 2018

Housing Rehabilitation Grant Program

Public Information Meeting

The City of Watervliet will be holding a public information meeting on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. at the Watervliet Senior Citizen Center.  The meeting will be to provide projected timeline  and expectations for the upcoming Phase II Water Distribution work that will take place in specific areas of the City.  Representatives from the City administration and water department as well as representatives from the engineering firm, Weston & Sampson and the contractor, ANJO Construction, will be present to provide the information and answer any questions pertaining to this project.  Click here for a map of the Phase II work.

Relay for Life - Saturday, June 9, 2018

Relay for Life of the Hudson River Communities is scheduled for Saturday, June 9th from Noon-Midnight at Watervliet High School.  This year's event has a Disney theme and will include a site decoration contest. Winter Vacation Reminder

Many residents take vacations to a warmer climate during the winter months.  In case of a snow emergency, please make sure someone has access to your car keys if you leave your car parked on the street.  During every snow emergency, we have someone call to say they are on vacation and can't move their car.  Unfortunately, we weren't able to make exceptions and those cars were towed.  If you don't have someone who can move your vehicle, the City will allow you to park it at Hudson Shores Park while you are gone.  If this is something you need to take advantage of, you must call City Hall at (518) 270-3815 in advance.

Martin Luther King Day Garbage Pick Up

There will be no garbage pick up on Monday, January 15th due to observance of Martin Luther King Day.  Garbage should be put out Monday night for Tuesday pick up.

The City of Watervliet's Halloween parade has been moved to the DOME due to Sunday's weather forecast.  Weather permitting, children will line up at the swimming pool parking lot at 12:30 p.m. and the parade will end at the Dome where activities include face painting, balloons, rock wall, photos, music, food and much more.  If it is raining at 12:30 p.m., the festivities will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the Dome.  Call Bob at (518) 337-9115 if you have any questions.

Arsenal City Run Weekend Activities

This year there is a weekend of events including Watervliet High School home football game on Friday with a "Tailgating BBQ Dinner" beginning at 4:00 p.m.  On Saturday a fun-filled family day is scheduled from 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m. at the Dome with food, rides, carnival games and demonstrations from the City's police and fire department; and from 4:00-8:00 p.m. there will a beer tent and live music from Dashboard Anthem, Tom Corrigan, and Beautiful Danger.  Click here for more information.  The Arsenal City Run is Sunday, September 24th at 10:00 a.m. at City Hall (Fun Run at 9:30) followed by activities, food, live music and the awards ceremony at the Dome.

Road Resurfacing - July 5-July 14

Click here for a list of streets that are being repaved.  Gallo Construction will begin milling on Monday, July 5th (starting on the South end of the City and moving North).   If you have "no parking" signs in front of your house, do not park there between the hours of 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.  Once your street has been paved, you may resume parking there.

Water Department - Spring Flushing Notice

The City of Watervliet Water Department will be conducting annual spring flushing of the City's waterlines.  The flush will run from April 10th to May 12th.  If you notice any discoloring of your water, we ask that you run your water for five minutes.  If after five minutes you still have discolored water, we ask that you call the Water Department at 785-7082.

Capital District Transportation Committee (CDTC) Equity Task Force Seeks Members

CDTC's Equity Task Force is looking for new members! The CDTC is a federally mandated agency responsible for comprehensive and cooperative regional transportation planning in Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga, and Schenectady Counties. The Task Force promotes collaboration and problem solving to ensure fair access to opportunities and equitable distribution of the transportation system's benefits and burdens. Civil Service Announcement

Citywide Garage Sale - June 2-4, 2017

A Citywide garage sale will take place in Watervliet on Friday, June 2nd, Saturday, June 3rd and Sunday, June 4th, 2017. THERE WILL BE NO RAIN DATES. The City will map out and list on our website (www.watervliet.com – select the box “Interactive Mapping”) your address, days and hours you wish to hold the sale on your property. The normal $10 permit fee will be waived for this weekend’s sale. All unsold items at the end of the sale must be cleared from the property according to the City’s Refuse and Recycling codes. Please do not block the public right of way (sidewalks, etc.). If you wish to have your garage sale placed on the map and list, please contact Phyllis at 270-3800 ext. 100 no later than 4:00 PM, Tuesday, May 30th. If leaving a message, please be sure to include your name, address, phone number, the day or days (Friday, Saturday, Sunday or ALL) and the hours (e.g. 9 AM to 4 PM) you will be holding your sale. City of Watervliet Property Tax Bills Now Paid at Pioneer Bank

All in person or over the counter property tax payments must be paid at the Watervliet Branch of Pioneer Savings Bank.  Payments will no longer be accepted at City Hall.  For more information, click here. .
